Exhaustion, Exhausting Temporalities, and Young Trans People’s Everyday Lives in the UK

In this article, young trans people share their experiences of exhaustion and exhausting temporalities. Drawing on participatory research with aged fourteen to twenty-five in London Scotland, I trace forces implicated the spatial bodily emergence fixity people’s lives sociomaterialities, embodied practices, architectures many everyday spaces, alongside societal hostilities, as a set that often (attempt to) erode agency contribute “out-of-placeness.” also undertake queer reconceptualizing condition emphasizes specificities bodies, subject positions, interactions exhausted people. Crucially, reconceptualization recognizes experiencing embodying can, perhaps paradoxically, initiate make possible myriad potentialities, complicating academic work positions removal possibility. The article reflects radical flourishing youth lives, solidarities, euphoric by exploring participants’ (re)making resilient, resistive, restorative subjectivities, embodiments, spatialities within exhaustion’s temporal pervasiveness. By illuminating nonlinear, messy, prolonged temporalities, observe such temporalities constitute function lived while paradoxically providing conditions for empowering, expansive, transspecific potentialities.
